Game Informer preview online
Posted by illspirit at 18:04. Category: General
Grand Inquisitor, erm, Game Informer, the magazine which brought us the first info about SanAn, and subsequently threatened to to sue a number of excited fans for talking about their article and sharing the pictures with their friends online, has posted the article on their website. They've also posted the exclusive fansite-only screenshot with claims that they have a new exclusive (after threatenting to sue various fan sites for doing the same to them, no less). Both of these can be seen by selling your soul registering at the GI site. Don't bother though, as you've already seen the new picture here. And you've also bought the magazine and read it for yourself, right? ;)

New CJ Screenshot
Posted by Jevon at 09:01. Category: General
We just received a new screen shot from the R* Webmaster with the following description:
"Rumors that the game was at this year's E3 can't be substantiated - but as a mark of respect to the fansites we thought we would let you have a quick glance at CJ outside the Los Santos convention center, which bears more than a passing resemblance to the home of E3!"
|
To me, this confirms the previous three screenshots as being in Los Santos too, as they appear to have exactly the same sky and weather.
Really must get that screenshot gallery sorted out...

"The Real Los Santos"
Posted by Jevon at 09:50. Category: General
While attending E3, Jordan over at PlanetGrandTheftAuto did a lot of filming. He's now collated it all into a rather nice video showing a lot of the kind of scenery we can expect to see in San Andreas.
For more information, check out this thread on the forums.

Lazlow to Appear in GTA: SanAn?
Posted by CaliGangstar at 00:01. Category: General
Curious as to what Lazlow had to say about his appearance in San Andreas, I emailed him to get the scoop. Heres my email:
Date: Thu, 13 May 2004 22:52:03 -0700 (PDT)
From: "alex" **********
Subject: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
To: lazlow **********
Hi Lazlow, I'm a big fan. I'm sure you already know
what this is about judging from the subject heading.
Basically I'm emailing you to ask you one of the
questions that is on a LOT of GTA fans' minds: Are you
returning to do work on GTA: San Andreas? And if the
opportunity hasn't yet been offered, would you accept
if Rockstar asks?
I'm sure you get a ton of these emails, and I
apologize for adding another one to that ton. But I'm
sure you know of the giant community behind the GTA
franchise, and you returning is very important to us.
Thanks in advance.
-Alex

alex,
thanks for the email.
the answer to your question is simple.
i'll leave it at that.

One would think the simple answer would be yes. We all know GTA wouldn't be the same without good ol' Lazlow. We'll just have to wait and see. ;)

Game Informer Withdraws Publicized Scans
Posted by Eviscero at 15:50. Category: General
Recently we linked you to GTAGaming.com which featured new scans of the next Game Informer issue. This issue included an article on GTA: SA, which was posted on the site. Yesterday, Game Informer responded by asking them to remove the scanned pictures and respect their exclusive preview. Looks like we'll have to wait another 12 days to see them again.

GamesRadar News Official
Posted by CaliGangstar at 19:24. Category: General
Thats right. The news GamesRadar.com reported is in fact true. GameInformer magazine has confirmed it in an early release of their June issue over at E3.
Im sure you all heard the news about the three cities, stamina meter, etc. somewhere else already(if not check out illy's report below), so I will skip all that and get right into what Dan Houser himself has confirmed about San Andreas.
The three cities are infact modeled after Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas. Each will be about the size of Vice City, resulting in a gameworld about 4 to 6 times larger than GTA3/Vice City. Sounds amazing.
It has been confirmed that between Los Santos(Los Angeles) and San Fierro(San Fran), there will be a long countryside-esque stretch of land, with, get this, a mountain to drive up to get to San Fierro. From there on players will have to drive through a desert to get to Las Venturra(Las Vegas), where eventually we will get to build and run our own casino!
Thats all for now. But expect alot more new info very soon. San Andreas is shaping up to be a revolutionary game.
Thanks to Jordon over at PlanetGrandTheftAuto.Com for this great news.

GTA:SA- Bigger, Faster, Better. Emphasis on bigger
Posted by illspirit at 14:07. Category: General
GamesRadar.com is reporting some rather interesting new details on SanAn from an as-of-yet unknown source. Most interesting of which would be (as many have guessed from the intitial plot summary) that San Andreas will be an entire state featuring three cities. Rockstar's original press release made mention of a Los Santos, which with the screenshots and Cali's observation thereof, seems to be based on Los Angeles. GamesRadar not only echoes this, but speaks of two other cities as well- San Fierro, said to be based on San Francisco, and Las Venturra which might just be based on Las Vegas.
Also mentioned in the article are a new 'stamina meter' which comes with the need to eat in the game, as well as more interactive interior sections for the player to rob or gamble money in a casino. There's also mention of improved AI allowing the player to recruit gang members for missions and such.
We've yet to find official confirmation on any of this, but could it be that this info is from the issue of Game Informer that's floating around E3? Only time will tell. The full article can be found by following this link to GamesRadar.com.

An In-Depth Review of Take2's Behind the Scenes @ E3 Webcast
Posted by CaliGangstar at 23:05. Category: General
MUST READ!!!!
R* said San Andreas was a no show at E3 this year. What they really meant was, it won't be on the show floor. Because in Take2's investor luncheon, there was a lot of talk about San Andreas. We got it all right here.

Watts Towers In San Andreas
Posted by CaliGangstar at 20:56. Category: General
For those that don't know, the Watts Towers is a mini landmark in the community of Watts, in Southern Los Angeles County. And as we all know, San Andreas' setting is that of a San Francisco/Los Angeles city.
While examining the first 3 screenshots of San Andreas last night, I noticed odd looking towers in the background of the pic of the man crouching infront of his lowrider. I noticed they didn't look like trees at all. Then it just came to me that they were infact a replica of the Watts Towers. Here are some pics for comparison.
Just thought I would fill everyone in on this interesting find.

Official Game Description
Posted by Jevon at 17:50. Category: General
The R* Webmaster has just sent out the official game description for San Andreas, along with the screenshots they have on the official site...
"Five years ago Carl Johnson escaped from the pressures of life in Los Santos, San Andreas... a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs and corruption. Where filmstars and millionaires do their best to avoid the dealers and gangbangers.
Now, it's the early 90s. Carl's got to go home. His mother has been murdered, his family has fallen apart and his childhood friends are all heading towards disaster.
On his return to the neighborhood, a couple of corrupt cops frame him for homicide. CJ is forced on a journey that takes him across the entire state of San Andreas, to save his family and to take control of the streets."
|
The original name of the middle image was "carl johnson.tif" giving a fair idea that the main character is indeed black this time around making a refreshing change to the stalwart bad-boy white-guy.
The last paragraph, "...the entire state of San Andreas...", is very interesting - are we going to see a return of more than one city per game, a la the original GTA? Or are R* just bending the truth and there will be different islands a la GTA3 and Vice? Time will tell!
Further in-depth analysis of the shots can be read this thread on the forums and indeed various other places around the net.
